WHAT ARE AD INFINITUM’S ACTIVITIES?

As a LGBTQIA+, working class and ethnic minority-led theatre company, we embrace difference through collaboration, enabling a more representative theatre culture to exist by placing those minoritised by society at the heart of our work.

  • We make theatre and bring it to audiences nationally and internationally.

  • We support artists.

  • We share our theatre making tools, discipline & skills with young people in education and artists who want to develop their practice.

  • We collaborate with some of the UK’s leading theatre organisations.

WHAT IS AD INFINITUM’S CARBON IMPACT?

We have worked with Bristol consultants Greener Energy Futures to use carbon calculating software called Sage Earth to assess the carbon impact of our activity, using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG). The GHG categorises Carbon Emissions into three ‘scopes’.

Ad Infinitum is currently a remote organisation with no office space and no company vehicles, and this means we have no Scope 1 or Scope 2 emissions. Based on the data reported in 2021-2022, our Scope 3 emissions can be broken down as follows:

80% - employees working from home
14% - national travel
3% - purchased goods
2% - accommodation
1% - other

We produced a total of around 8 tonnes of CO2 for the year 2021-22.

Although it doesn’t fall under the remit of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG protocol), we feel it’s important to also consider the carbon impact of audience travel to watch our productions. Based on an average number of ticket sales for UK performances, and using an average mileage, and sector average for transport type - the estimated carbon impact of audience travel to Ad Infinitum productions in 2021-22 would be more than double the carbon emissions of the total emissions calculated for the rest of the organisation’s activity (around 17 tonnes). Although under the GHG protocol, these emissions fall under the tour venues’ Scope 3 emissions rather than ours, we will work with venues to reduce them where possible.

It is clear from the above data that the areas which will have the greatest impact on reducing our carbon emissions are audience travel, national travel, and employees working from home. Our Environmental Policy and Action plan therefore uses these three priority areas to inform our commitments and actions for the next three years.

We did not have any international travel during the year 2021-22, but will monitor data from when we do travel internationally and this will be reviewed in terms of its impact.
